Ali Harbi Ali, a 25-year-old man, has been formally charged with stabbing Member of Parliament David Amess to death.
Ali, who was arrested last Friday at the scene of the murder in Leigh-on-Sea in east London, is also facing a second charge of preparing for an act of terrorism.
He was due to appear in court in central London today, according to the Crown Prosecution Service and UK police.
Lawmaker Amess, a 69-year-old father of five, was killed while in a meeting with voters, becoming the second British lawmaker to be killed in five years.
Labor MP Jo Cox was also killed in a meeting with voters, ahead of the June 2016 Brexit referendum.
Nick Price, head of the criminal and anti-terrorism unit of the Royal Prosecution Service, said proscutors would report that Amess’s killing was linked to terrorism, and was particularly motivated by religious and ideological issues. and have full evidence to support this.
