A member of the Galmudug Electoral Commission who was recently re-appointed by President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoor Qoor after the re-shuffle of the commission, said she has resigned from her post.

Hawa Adanyare Ulusow (Hawa Kiin), a member of the state election commission, announced the decision in a statement posted on her Facebook page.

“I am announcing to all Somalis that I have resigned as a member of the Galmudug State Electoral Commission, appointed by Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoor Qoor on 16/06/2021,” said Hawa Kiin.

“My resignation was due to personal reasons. I am grateful to the State President for recognizing me as one of those who can serve the people of Galmudug, but that is not possible for me at present, ”said Hawa Kiin, who did not elaborate on the issues that forced her to resign.

Hawa Kiin’s resignation will now cause further delay to Prime Minister Roble’s announcement of the full list of electoral commission members, with President Qoor Qoor expected to again fill the vacancy left by Hawa Kiin.

Qoor Qoor has previously been praised for appointing a committee free of Villa Somalia influence, with his decision angering close supporters of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.

Somalia is gearing up for parliamentarian and presidential elections after many setbacks had forced a delay to the election which was expected to take place this past February 2021.
