Somalia: Abdi Hashi re-elected speaker of parliament

The election of the Speaker of the Upper House and his two deputies was held today at the Aficio Tent Center in Mogadishu, in whcih three candidates had contested.

The 54 members of the Upper House were present at the polling station, and Abdi Hashi Abdillahi, Salah Ahmed Jama and Osman Abukar Dubbe ran for the post of Speaker of the Upper House.

The candidates for the post of Speaker of the Upper House was won by Abdi Hashi Abdillahi with 28 votes, Salah Ahmed Jama with 24 votes and Osman Abukar Dubbe with 2 votes.

Senators Abdihakin Moalim Ahmed and Senator Ali Shabaan Ibrahim contested in the second round of the 1st Vice Speaker election.

1: Senator Ali Shabaan Ibrahim won with 28 votes

2: Senator Abdihakin Maalim Ahmed received 25 votes

One vote was spoiled.

Four candidates contested for the 2nd Vice Speaker role:

1: Senator Abdullahi Ali Hersi (Timacadde)

2: Senator Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag).

3: Senator Ilyas Badel Gaboose.

4: Senator Hassan Hussein Haji

However, Senator Ilyas Badel Gaboose and Senator Hassan Hussein Haji withdrew from the race, and Senators Abdullahi Ali Hersi (Timaadde) and Senator Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) competed in the third round. 

1: Senator Abdullahi Ali Hersi (Timacadde) 30 votes

2: Senator Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) 23 votes.
