Abdi Hassan Awale (Qaybdiid) has been re-elected as a member of the Upper House of the Somali Parliament, following an election held today in Dhusamareb, the capital of Glamuudug.
Abdi Qeybdid’s victory came out with a show of hands, after resigning his rival Awil Nur Ali.
Galmudug lawmakers voted for Abdi Qeybdiid, who received 83 votes, according to the speaker.
The result of the election had been already predicted by many analyst as Abdi Qeybdid is now one of Galmudug State president’s close ally.
Abdi Osman Hared also won the second seat in a show of hands by Galmudug lawmakers, after the withdrawal of his rival Mahad Adan, with Hared’s victory being also projected before his election success.
Meanwhile, security at the polling station has been tightened with more security forces deployed to the area.
Holding elections for these two seats now means the completion of the Upper House elections in Galmudug and regional administrations in the country.
Lower House parliamentarian elections are expected to continue this upcoming week, according to the latest round of schedule released by the electoral commission.
