The leader of the Wadajir party, Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, has called on the Prime Minister of Somalia to immediately intervene in concerns about the safety of Somali youth who have been trained in Eritrea.

Politician Abdirahman Abdishakur says an international report from the United Nations office in Somalia has further raised suspicions that young people taken to Eritrea took part in the fighting in Tigray region, northern Ethiopia.

“The era of hiding responsibility is over. We demand that parents be given an answer. We demand that the government respond to the Somali boys and girls who were taken to Eritrea. I call on the outgoing president to stand up and take that responsibility, ”said Abdirahman Abdishakur.

Abdirahman Abdishakur said the youths had not been drafted following procedures in the first place and that the Somali government is reluctant to give the right answer to the parents of the missing children.

“Mr PM, You have a duty to meet the concerned parents and we cannot ignore their plea’s. Do not let it slide and do not give up on this matter; give an adequate response to the nation about the Somali boys and girls sent to Eritrea and your position on it,” said Abdirahman Abdishakur.

Earlier today, a report released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that Somali troops, who were undergoing military training in Eritrea, had taken part in the fighting in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
