Al-Shabaab displays vehicles seized in Mogadishu attack

1 min read

Al-Shabaab militants have  unveiled police vehicles that they took from the Kahda police station in Banadir region.

Pictures released by al-Shabaab media show two vehicles which they said were captured during a battle at Kahda police station on Wednesday night.

Al-Shabaab’s two vehicles also showed the effects of the weapons used during the fighting in Kahda district, especially the police station, with the windows completely shattered.

This is the first time in a while that al-Shabaab has been able to open military bases in and around Mogadishu and take over areas.

Al Shabaab militants attacked Kahda district in Banadir region, capturing the district’s base and nearby neighborhoods for almost an hour, as part of a series of night raids in parts of the region.

This is an embarrassment to the security and intelligence agencies of the federal government currently in the run-up to the elections, raising questions about the performance of thousands of government-trained soldiers.

However, Mogadishu during Farmajo’s five-year rule has inherited a stronger al-Shabaab, which attacks the city at any hour and will, as well as taxing many businesses in the city.
