Al Shabaab launches heavy attack on Baidoa town

Al-Shabaab fighters have launched a series of artillery and mortar attacks on military bases in Baidoa, the capital of bay region in South West State of Somalia.

The Al Shabaab attack began with artillery shelling on an Ethiopian military base in Baidoa, followed by gunfire.

Ethiopian troops fired heavy artillery shells into the area, but no casualties were reported.

Al Shabaab fighters also launched a direct attack on a police station in Baidoa, the transitional capital of the southwestern state, and no casualties were reported.

Security forces in Baidoa have not yet commented on the attacks, but they are coming at a time when Baidoa is undergoing parliamentary elections.
