The killings of Somali youth in Sweden are on the rise, with the latest killing of a boy on Monday night in Hjulsta in Stockholm.
Sheikh Hussein Farah Haji Warsame, the imam of Masjidul Nur, a Somali-run mosque in Stockholm’s Rinkybay district, told VOA that the boy, in his twenties, had been killed, with police arresting eight people for his murder.
Sheikh Hussein also said that the killings of Somalis in Sweden are mostly among Somali youth, who are divided into groups, he said.
“On Monday night, he was killed in a predominantly Somali neighborhood. We pray to God to have mercy on him and the dead,” said Sheikh Hussein Farah.
He also said that they are working with the government and the police to address the killings, noting that they are raising awareness within the Somali community on how to strengthen unity in order to combat crime.
Nearly 30 Somali youths have been killed in Sweden since 2015, while nine others have been injured.
