The governor of Banadir region and the mayor of Mogadishu, Omar Mohamud Mohamed (Omar Filish) chaired an extraordinary meeting attended by district commissioners of Banadir region and security officials of Banadir region.
Governor Filish has strongly opposed a rally organized by the Opposition, which is scheduled to take place in Mogadishu on Thursday.
He said Mogadishu could not handle any new challenges at the moment, calling the ongoing protests chaotic against security in the capital.
He also instructed security officials to strengthen security in the capital Mogadishu, and called on the community to work with the security of the capital.
The governor cited the fact that an agreement had been reached on the election irregularities, which were welcomed by the opposition, despite a planned protests against Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his December 27 coup attempt.
It is not the first time that the Benadir regional administration has openly opposed the opposition’s planned demonstration, as only a few days ago, the deputy chairman of security and politics of the regional administration Ali Abdi Wardheer ‘Ali Yare” announced that protests could not be held in the city without the permission of the county council.
Pro-Farmajo officials are currently working to quell the protests, despite recently staging women rally in support of former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
