Beledweyne: More details emerge of a suicide bombing attack

Reports from the town of Beledweyne in Hiran region confirm that a suicide bomber blew himself up at a police station in the town.

The blast took place between the Lama-Galaay Center and the Liiq-Liiqato Bridge, which hosts meetings on security in Beledweyne, elections and resolving political disputes.

The blast took place at a restaurant called Bar Hassan Dhiif on the back wall of the Hiran regional capital.

The death toll stands at 16 while 2 of them were the Deputy Governor of Hiran region Abdirashid and the Deputy Commissioner for Social Affairs of Beledweyne District Abdirahman.

The dead were said to be among the candidates running for parliament and their delegates, according to eyewitnesses at the scene.

Among those killed in the blast was Mohamed Abdullahi Nur, a candidate for the HOPP 03 seat expected to take place in Beledweyne.

Security forces closed the roads near the scene of the blast, and injured people were taken away.

The victims of the blast inside Hassan Dhiif restaurant have been taken to Beledweyne General Hospital.

Beledweyne Police Command and Administration have not released any official casualties.

Beledweyne, the capital of Hiran region, is set to hold elections tomorrow for some of the seats in the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia whose constituency is Hirshabelle.
