Reports coming in from Air Force Base in Mogadishu state that the prime minister of Somalia and the heads of state and the Benadir region have recently signed a long-running election agreement.
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and other signatories penned the election agreement, closing the National Electoral Consultative Council meeting in Mogadishu today.
The leaders of the federal and state governments have agreed in recent days to compromise on difficult issues ahead of the elections, thus making it easier for all parties to reach an agreement today.
The event was also attended by the Speakers of both Houses of Parliament, members of the Union of Opposition Candidates, Ambassadors from around the world and various segments of civil society.
