The cabinet of Somalia’s prime minister has fired the director of the Somali Immigration and Nationality Agency, Mohamed Aden Kofi.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said the council had also approved the appointment of Abdulkadir Elmi Ali as the new director of the agency.
“The Council of Ministers today approved the appointment of Abdulkadir Elmi Ali as the new Director General of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, thanking former Director General Mohamed Aden Kofi for his work,” a brief statement from Prime Minister Roble’s office said.
Today’s meeting of the Council came after a message was sent to the ministers in the middle of the night informing them of today’s meeting which took place at two in the afternoon.
The meeting follows a postponed meeting of cabinet members on Thursday, which would have discussed the overall situation in the country.
Former Director General Mohamed Aden Kofi was one of the longest serving directors in the federal government, serving under former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and by the time President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo arrived, he had retained his position as the DG of immigration.
