The Union of Candidates welcomes the decision by the office of the Prime Minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble, to expel Ambassador Francisco Madeira, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia and Head of Mission for AMISOM, within 48 hours.

The Union believes that the decision of the Prime Minister was necessary and carefully considered, in order to ensure the independence of the country and not to undermine the peace process or incite political strife among the Somali people.

The Union repeatedly called on the Ambassador of Madeira to remain neutral in Somalia and has previously lodged a written complaint with the African Union, particularly the visiting Peace and Security Council.

The Union commends the African Union for its efforts in Somalia, and urges the appointment of an envoy who will strengthen ties with Somalia, be transparent and mediate in political disputes, and support the peace process in Somalia.

The Union calls for the expedition of the election schedule, and the swearing in of the new parliamentarians scheduled for April 14, 2022, and hopes that the elections will take place on time in a peaceful manner.
