The correctional officer guards who are based at where the incident took place earlier this afternoon, have in previous months repeatedly fired on vehicles carrying officials and traditional elders at the checkpoints under their command.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Somali Correctional Forces, Mahad Abdirahman Aden, who spoke about the shooting of Hassan Sheikh this afternoon, said that it was unintentional and that he had apologized to the former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for the incident.

Reports say there were no casualties as a result of the shots fired at former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy.

There is no word yet from Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s camp regarding the shooting of the convoy by the Somali Correctional Forces.
