Federal State Leaders to arrive in Mogadishu for fresh talks on 27 May agreement

2 min read

The president of South West state, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Lafta-gareen and a delegation led by him have today arrived in Mogadishu, the capital of the country.

President Lafta-Gareen has arrived in Mogadishu to attend a conference recently announced by Prime Minister Roble, in which the leaders of the National Consultative Assembly will hold talks to expedite the elections.

State President Lafta-gareen will be the first regional president to arrive in Mogadishu, just one day before a cabinet meeting convened by Prime Minister Roble, to discuss the electoral process since the May 27th agreement.

The president of Galmudug state Ahmed Qoor Qoor is also expected to arrive in Mogadishu tomorrow. The Forum will be lead and attended by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, heads of five regional states and the governor of Benadir region.

The conference is scheduled to take place tomorrow, although there are reports that it could be postponed until Monday as some regional administration leaders are currently out of the country.

MTVSomali.com has learned, the meeting is likely to be about a slight change on the terms of some of the agreed 27 May, including factors that may have changed since the last agreement with hints that the delegates to elect constituency MPs will be be made to 61 delegates instead of the agreed 101.

Also, the provisions that may be amended include the voting districts where plans are in place to limit the election to one district instead of the previously agreed two districts.

The amendments to some of the previously mentioned provisions are being promoted by some regional administration leaders such as Ahmed Madobe and Ali Gudlawe who want the seats in Hir-Shabelle and Jubbaland to be limited to Jowhar and Kismayo.
