Electoral Commission issues statement on the upcoming elections

A statement from the Federal Electoral Commission (FEC) stated that the election of the Chairman of the Somaliland Electoral Commission will take place on Saturday at the Afisyooni Air force base on the fence of Aden Adde International Airport.
The committee has been marred by controversy since its formation with the camp split into two, with supporters of Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi announcing that they will not run in the by-elections.
Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble’s efforts to find a solution to the dispute over the election of the Northern Regional Electoral Commission have so far been dented by repeated challenges.
Tomorrow’s anticipated election at the Afisiyooni Tent will be attended by members of the media, the international community and civil society.
“The election of the chairman of the Somaliland bicameral election committee will be held at the Afisiyooni Tent, Saturday, August 7, 2021. The media, government agencies, civil society organizations, electoral commissions and the community will be invited” the statement from the Federal Electoral Commission said.
