Electoral commission says parliamentary elections will begin in regional states

The Federal Government of Somalia’s Electoral Commission says it has launched a plan to speed up the country’s electoral process.

Chairman of the Federal Electoral Commission Mohamed Hassan Irro said elections for the House of the People will officially begin in the coming weeks.

He said the state governments have today started sending complete election materials to the areas where the elections are scheduled to take place.

The chairman noted that the northern regional elections have also officially started and two seats have so far been elected, although one of the seats is currently with the electoral dispute resolution committee after a complaint was launched , and the rest will be finalized by the end of this month.
