Electoral Commission sends message to Puntland, Jubbaland and HirShabelle States

The Federal Electoral Commission has sent a message to the administrations that have not yet announced the list of members for the House of Representatives, as the by-elections have begun in the country.

Ahmed Safina, a spokesman for the Indirect Electoral Commission, said Puntland, Jubbaland and HirShabelle needed to hold elections for the Somali Parliament as soon as possible, in order to make the most of the time.

The spokesman also announced that Parliamentary elections will not take place after December 24, 2021.

“We are sending a message to the three remaining regional administrations of Jubbaland, Puntland and Hirshabelle, to hurry up with the lists of first seats in the elections as all elections in the country must be completed by December 24th” Safina said.

Also, the spokesman of the Federal Electoral Commission said that the traditional elders of the South West who are selecting the delegates for the 11 announced seats need to be ready for the work that will take place on Saturday at the office of the Electoral Commission in Baidoa for a upcoming training.

The spokesperson summarised and sent a message to the traditional elders of South West State, asking them to come in and be provided training on the election.

Somalia has long been in a state of transition due to elections, but parliamentary elections are now well under way, with plans to conclude them by the end of Decembe 2021.
