MP Amina Mohamed Abdi went to Beledweyne to run for the seat of her community where she was previously sitting, and her killing was overshadowed by many doubts, as she was involved in the Ikraan case which she was relentlessly advocating for.
Although al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the killings, politicians and the public have blamed Villa Somalia and the outgoing administration for campaigning in recent weeks to remove Amina from the list of candidates for her seat.
Earlier today, Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, government officials and former government officials offered funeral prayers for lawmakers Amina Mohamed Abdi and former lawmaker Ali Abdi Dhuhul, who were killed in last night’s bombing in Beledweyne.
The bodies of the deceased were brought from Beledweyne today for burial in Mogadishu, and the funeral prayers were attended by former Speaker Mohamed Mursal, former Presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud & Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre and other officials. .
