Explosion in Marka town; More Details emerge

Reports from Lower Shabelle region say that an explosion took place in the center of Marka town, the regional capital today.

The blast, which was a landmine, reportedly took place in Awale garage near the Marka police station.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to local media say that the blast was followed by gunfire from security forces, with more re-enforcement police arriving at the scene and are now investigating the incident.

The land bomb struck shortly after noon in front of a police station, killing at least two police officers and wounding several others, officials said.

According to reliable sources, the blast killed a man named Said Jalbow as well as the individual who was planting the mine blast at the time.

The situation is still tense, and with the blast impacting local movements and activities in the Wadajir neighborhood, where the incident took place.

Security in Marka has been relatively stable in the past, with the Somali Federal Government’s military and security forces operating and conducting operations in the area.
