The bomb struck in front of a passing car carrying three Turkish nationals and their Somali driver.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the bombings, which have carried out similar attacks in the capital, Mogadishu, and attacks on foreigners and officials.

Al-Shabaab has stepped up its terrorist activities as the country prepares to finalize parliamentary elections and thus reducing the fighting against the group by security agencies.

The vehicle was severely damaged and its front parts torn due to the force of the blast.
