The electoral commissioned have been accused of being members of the security forces and civil servants.

The commission appointed by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to verify the members of the Electoral Commission has released the names of the members who the Union of Candidates have complained for their removal.

A spokesman for the prime minister’s nominee committee, Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala, said he had received the names of 67 members whom complaints have been filed against.

Minister Al-Adalla said that the 67 people who were referred were accused with three different charges:

1. Are members of the national army of the Federal Government of Somalia.
2. Are members of the civil servants of the Federal Government of Somalia.
3- That they are members who are loyal to the outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

A spokesman for the commission said they would investigate the allegations against the members and will sort out the matter in the coming days, as soon as the government submits the official results of their investigation.

Deputy Minister of Information Al-Adalla noted that the verification of these members will be based on provisions set by the signatories to the May 27 agreement in Mogadishu for members of the federal and regional election commissions.

The list was recently submitted to Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble by members of the candidates’ union, in accordance with an agreement reached in Mogadishu between the Somali government and regional administration leaders.

The findings comes a week after Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, had set up a commission to lead the allegation made by the union’s of presidential candidates against some of the Electoral Commission officials of being members of the security forces and civil servants staff, thus making them ”one-sided” and aligned with the office of the current President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
