Somalia’s Ministry of Information has denied reports circulating on social media today that military troops in Villa Somalia have taken control of the ministry’s headquarters.

“We are informing the Somali people that no troops have taken over the Ministry of Information,” a statement from the ministry said.

“The Ministry of Information is a government agency, and its security is secure, and it is the responsibility of the National Security Agencies,” the statement said.

At noon, troops in the Red Caps were deployed inside the Ministry of Information building, according to some local journalists.

This comes at a time when the Prime Minister of the federal Republic had sacked the national intelligence chief Fahad Yasin, only to be reinstated by the president within a few hours.
