Galmudug and Somali forces take over new areas

Galmudug State security ministry has given more details about the joint operations carried out by the Somali National Army and the administration’s Darawish in many parts of Mudug region in central Somalia.

A statement from the ministry said troops had taken control of Ba’adweyn, Qaycad and Sabeena Gawrac areas in the south of the region.

The ministry also revealed that the terrorist militant group have vacated the proximity areas, according to the statement.

“Galmudug national and security forces who carried out a planned operation this morning have taken control of Ba’adweyn town, Qaycad village, Sabeena Gawrac and other areas and Al-Shabaab has withdrawn from their strongholds and is now (the area) in full control of the forces,” the statement said.

Galmudug State administration also noted that it will double its military operations in the southern Mudug region of central Somalia.

Al-Shabaab fighters retreated from the area, according to local sources.

Somali military have recently stepped up operations in its central region, especially in areas controlled by al-Shabaab.
