Galmudug state security minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has resigned from his post, and also revealed the official reason behind his resignation, as the situation in Galmudug state has entered a new phase amid signs of conflict.
Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has issued a lengthy statement detailing the reasons for his resignation as security minister, which he has held since the formation of the cabinet of Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor, the current president of the Galmudug administration.
He pointed out that he resigned due to the issue of Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a, as according to him, the president and him could not agree on how to deal with the current dispute between the Galmudug administration and the Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamee’a Brigade (ASWJ) who returned to the areas of the administration, fully armed and mobilized large numbers of troops, as well as captured key areas and towns in Galmudug.
Ahmed Moalim Fiqi said in a statement that he had summbited his resignation to state, and that the state president had chosen the path of war, which led to his resignation, according to his statement.
“Today, I have submitted my resignation to the President of Galmudug, as we do not agree on how to deal with the conflict between the state administration and ASWJ, in which (the state) has chosen for the path of war and conflict in Galmudug,” said Ahmed Moalim Fiqi.
Ahmed Moalim Fiqi added that President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor had deployed a large number of troops from Mogadishu to attack Ahlu Sunna, which he said had not been consulted by him, as Galmudug security ministry.
“With the deployment of troops from Mogadishu who have no advice from the region or the Ministry of Security, I have suggested that the path to dialogue and non-violence is easier, less difficult and more successful” said the resigned Minister of Galmudug.
Since Ahlu-Sunna regrouped, there have been differences of opinion as well as disagreements among Galmudug officials over how to deal with their resurgence, and are now in control of many areas of the administration.
