Irish defense minister welcomed in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu

A high level delegation from Ireland has today arrived in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, and was welcomed at Aden Adde International Airport by Somali government officials.

The delegation was led by Irish Minister of Defense Simon Coveney TD, and was met at the airport by his Somali counterpart, Hassan Hussein Haji, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Abdirizak.

The delegation was also received by the Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Hassan Mohamed Said Samatar and military officials.

Afterwards, the members greeted members of the armed forces who were waving the emblems of the two governments.

The visit was unannounced and Irish Defense Minister Simon Coveney TD will hold talks with government officials in Mogadishu.

Ireland is one of the major donors to Somalia, and it also implements various projects that benefit the country and the Somali people in general.
