Kenya: Man blows himself, father & mother in suicide bomb

A suicide bomber struck shortly after tuesday evening in the western Kenyan city of Kisumu, killing at least two people and wounding several others, officials said.

Police say the blast killed at least three people, including the suicide bomber, and wounded a young girl.

The two dead were a man and his wife, according to Kisumu County Police Commander Karanja Muiuri in western Kenya.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a crowd of mourners at a mosque in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. is his younger sister. 

Kenyan security forces have identified the bomber as Joseph Odhiambo Ondiek, also known as Pope with the two people killed in the blast being his father and mother, while the injured girl was his younger sister.

Prior to the bombing, pope was said to have briefly questioned his family and carried out the attack on his parents.

The 44-year-old suicide bomber is suspected to be a member of al-Shabaab and has allegedly received training in Somalia, according the reports.

“We are trying to ascertain his whereabouts in the past few months. This is a reality and we are pursuing him,” said Kisumu Karanja police chief.

However, Kenyan police, who called the attack a terrorist act, are now investigating the incident, which resulted in deaths and injuries.
