Kenya tightens security in Eastleigh

Kenyan police have tightened security in Nairobi’s Eastleigh neighborhood following a spate of insecurity incidents in recent days targeting the peace loving Somali community in the area.
The Eastleigh Neighborhood Security Committee says the operation is aimed at thwarting armed gangs who have been looting Eastleigh in recent days.
Troops have been spotted on the main streets and in Nairobi’s suburbs, searching for suspected robbers who specifically target foreigners and the Somali community.
Somali business unions in Eastleigh have been expressing concern over the targeted killings in recent days, and in a case that had shocked the community, a young Somali was killed on Febuary 8th in Eastleigh after thieves robbed him violently off his mobile phone.
Business owner Mohamed Abdullahi said that Eastliegh has seen a recent spike in robberies with residents worried.
“Its has been very worrying; since the turn of the new year, we have seen more and more robbery cases being reported” he said.
It was just a week ago when a video had gone viral and sent shockwaves when Somali musician Iidle Yare was robbed while live on tiktok in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
