Kenyan Ambassador Lucas Tumbo returns to Mogadishu today

Kenya’s ambassador to Somalia Lucas Tumbo has returned to the Somali capital Mogadishu today following a recent agreement between the two countries to reopen their embassies.
Ambassador Tumbo has been absent from Somalia in recent months due to strained relations between the two neighboring countries.
The governments of Somalia and Kenya agreed on the 16th of this month (June 2021) to open the embassies of the two countries immediately after the two foreign ministers had a lengthy telephone conversation in restoring diplomatic relations.
Direct flights to Mogadishu and Nairobi have recently resumed following an agreement reached between the two countries, but it is worth noting that only a few days ago the Somali government filed a complaint with the Security Council against the Kenyan government over its warplanes striking the Gedo region, killing civilians in the process.
