The High Court of Garissa County in Kenya’s North Eastern Province has sentenced two Kenyan police officers to 10 years in prison for killing Abdia Omar Aden three years ago in Ramu County, Mandera County.

Denis Langat and Kennedy Okuli were arraigned in court at the time of the shooting, but the court ruled that the killing was not intentional.

The two men were convicted in July, following an investigation by the IPOA.

The department, which issued a statement after the sentencing, said it was committed to seeking justice for innocent victims such as Abdia.

Abdia, 63, was shot dead on November 10, 2018, during a police raid on her home as they tried to arrest her son on suspicion of drug trafficking.

The two assailants were later arrested and arraigned in Garissa High Court, where they were later released on bail.

According to Kenya’s The Star, an autopsy showed that she had died of bleeding from the gunshot wounds. The bullets hit Abdia in the neck and exited from her back.
