Agnes Tirop, a Kenyan record holder, was found dead at her home in the western Kenyan town of Iten.

Police say her husband is the first suspect in her murder.

Twice she won the bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships, finishing fourth in the Olympic Games, running the 5,000m, which ended two months ago.

She recently turned 25.

A criminal investigation has now been launched into the athletes death, with police saying her husband is key witness and is still missing.

On Wednesday, investigators went to Tirop’s home, where police said her father had  reported her missing on Tuesday night.

Tom Makori, the area’s police chief, said when police arrived at the house, they found Tirop’s body on the bed, and there was a lot of blood on the ground.

Police say the woman was stabbed in the neck, and it is believed to be the cause of her death.
