Latest updates; Puntland Election Results – Who won?

The Puntland Electoral Commission (PEC) has today announced the preliminary results of yesterday’s by-elections in Qardho, Eyl and Afeyn districts.

Preliminary results have been released for 11 polling stations in the three districts.

According to the early results, Kaah party, which is led by the President of Puntland State of Somalia, Said Abdullahi Deni, has recieved the most voters. 

The eight competing parties results are:

Kaah 1687 votes,

Unite 1300 votes,

Sincad 1248 votes,

Mustaqbal union 192 votes,

Horseed union 180 votes,

Runcad union 47 votes,

Labor union 13 votes

Ifiye union party with 8 votes.

The commission, meanwhile, is still awaiting some ballot boxes from other polling stations, before releasing the full official results.

In the election, 37,578 registered voters cast their ballots at 54 polling stations.

However, Puntland State, which was established on August 1, 1998, has tried several times in the past to hold elections but failed, and is now testing local elections in Qardho, Eyl and Ufeyn districts all under its full control.
