At least six people have been confirmed dead in an al-Shabaab attack on the Halane camp in Mogadishu, police say.
Police spokesman Colonel Abdifatah Aden Hassan said five of the six were foreigners and included an AMISOM soldier with the sixth person a Somali national.
He added that the dead also included trainers assisting the government with bomb defusal training, but did not disclose their countries of origin.
The spokesman said the attack was carried out by two members of Al-Shabaab, who have been killed.
Unconfirmed reports put the number of attackers at four.
The casualties are feared to be even greater, and the attack, claimed by al-Shabaab, will be the deadliest attack on Halane camp, one of the safest areas in Mogadishu.
The attack sparked widespread speculation and skepticism about how it was organized, as it targeted a heavily guarded camp.
The situation is still tense, with gunfire being heard inside Halane Camp, home to AMISOM troops, as well as large embassies.
The attack affected domestic and international flights.
