New contingents of AMISOM Police Arrive in Somalia

The Ugandan government has sent new contingents of its police force to Somalia as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

A statement from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) said the new contingent will arrive in Mogadishu to help improve the work of the AMISOM Police Force, enhance law enforcement and stabilize Somalia and join other African police forces already stationed including Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Zambia.

“We will work with friends from other countries in the police force to help restore peace and build up the Somali army during the transition period,” said Daniel Okello, the deputy commander of the new brigade upon his arrival in Mogadishu.

Upon arrival in Mogadishu, the new contingent was received by senior AMISOM police officers, and according to the statement they will first complete a mandatory two-week quarantine in accordance with COVID-19 prevention measures set by the Somali Ministry of Health.
