New parliamentarians elected in Mogadishu – Who are they?

Former Somali Minister of Information, Mr. Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Mareeye) has been re-elected as a Member of Parliament, following an election held at the General Kahiye Training Academy.

Mareeye won a landslide victory after defeating his rival candidate Abdirahman Warsame Said.

According to the Northern Electoral Commission, the parliamentarian received 96 votes, while his rival received 3 votes.

The winner of the HOP # 225 seat was a foregone conclusion, as the contestant was allegedly brought in by the winner, in order to emerge victorous.

Amino Omar Jama, a Member of Parliament, was also re-elected to the next seat by a show of hands, after her rival, Amino Osman Diriye, resigned from the race.

Fadumo Hassan Ali was also a winner in todays voting, receiving a show of hands with 91 votes in favor, while 10 delegates abstained.
