The election of HOPO67 seat took place recently in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug, in which two candidates competed.

The seat, which has been hotly debated in recent days, was contested by Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud ‘Yasin Farey’ and Mohamed Ali Ulusow after three other candidates withdrew from the race, with the seat won by Temporary National Intelligence Security Agency (NISA) Yassin Abdullahi Mohamud (Yasin Farey).

The outcome and victory of Yassin Farey was a foregone conclusion, and it is reported that he is closely linked to the outgoing presidents Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his chief security advisor, Fahad Yassin.

The Galmudug Electoral Commission said Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud (Farey) received 68 votes while Mohamed Ali Ulusow received 20 votes and lost 3 votes.

The seat was also previously held by prominent businessman Adow Ali Gees who has been a member of the House of the People for some time.

There had been some public outcry by some candidates including former NISA commander Abdirahman Tuuryare, accusing Villa Somalia of hijacking the seat in recent days.
