Hundreds of thousands of people have gathered in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to show support for the government in its fight against a coalition of rebel forces in the north.

The Addis Ababa administration has organized the rallies as rebel forces continue to fight and move closer to the capital, amid mounting international pressure to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Meanwhile, thousands of Jigjiga residents gathered in the early hours of this morning in the center of Jigjiga, carrying placards with slogans in support of the National Defense Forces and to condemned the advancing TPLF.

The mayor of Jigjiga, Abdifatah Ibrahim, and the governor of Faafan region, Abdihakin Sheikh, told the demonstrators that the TPLF is a terrorist group that has caused great damage to the environment and the country as a whole.

“We do not accept the return of a group that humiliated us yesterday and harassed the people of this region. We warn those who are supporters of the TPLF to halt the spread of false information on social media, and (that) we are ready to fight the evil doers” said the governor of Faafan region, speaking at the rally.

Demonstrations have also taken place in major Ethiopian cities, with many questioning international media of their support for the TPLF.
