The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble, today chaired a meeting with the Council of Ministers and gave a decision on the dispute between the Somaliland Electoral Commission.

The prime minister told the council that although there was a slight delay, a meeting two nights ago with the National Forum had agreed to end the Upper House elections next week.

The Prime Minister also briefed the council on his mediation in the dispute with the Somaliland Electoral Commission, which is divided into two factions, each with its own board.

Prime Minister Roble said he had spent a lot of time trying to build understanding between Abdi Hashi and Mahdi Guled, but this time he decided to go ahead with the election of the chairman and the committee to elect itself.

The Prime Ministers decision in the dispute with the Somaliland Electoral Commission was rejected by Abdi Hashi’s faction, which sees the prime minister as favouring his deputy Mahdi Guled, which could further cast doubt on the northern regional elections.
