PM Roble issues statement on today’s election

The Prime Minister of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble has praised the completion of the by-elections in Mogadishu, the last of the five Benadiri seats.

PM Roble sent a message of congratulations to the Benadir MPs who were elected in Mogadishu today, wishing them God’s help in their new responsibilities.

“I am pleased that the 62-seat election scheduled to take place in Mogadishu ended successfully on the scheduled deadline of February 25th, with the conclusion of last week’s election of members of both Houses of Parliament representing the Northern Regions, ”He said.

He also thanked the electoral commissions, the security forces and the people of Mogadishu for their patience.

Roble also expressed optimism that the remaining parliamentary elections will end with the March 15th meeting concluded by the National Consultative Assembly.

Parliamentary elections continue in the country, extending the deadline, after the National Consultative Assembly acknowledged that there were a number of challenges that caused the delay, including; Drought situation in the country, increased security tensions in some constituencies and financial constraints on the allocation of election funds.
