Police announce casualties in Mogadishu morning rush hour blast

Various reports are coming in of casualties as a result of a car bomb blast near Banadir High School in Hodan district.

The blast took place near Banadir High School between the former presidential palace of Abdi Aasim and Tarabuunka intersection in Mogadishu.

Somali police spokesman Abdi Fitah Aden Hassan said in a statement that the blast targeted a UN patrol vehicle, killing eight people and injuring 17 others.

“On 25-11-2021 at 07: 32hrs a car bomb exploded at the intersection of the Tribune and Ex Abdiqasim State House, in the front yard of Mo’asir School which is opposite Banadir High School” the spokesman said.

Witnesses said the blast killed and injured students at Mu’asir School, a woman cleaning the road and others passing by.

There was also extensive damage to buses at the school and the school building, according to local residents and photographs obtained by MTVSomali.com from the scene.

Somali police forces have cordoned off the area where the blast took place, and Somali security officials are expected to provide details about the blast.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the blast, saying it targeted foreign officers and military trainers.
