Somali police spokesman Abdifatah Aden gave into more details into the blast at Lido beach tonight and described the attack as a “suicide bomber wearing a suicide vest”.

The spokesman also confirmed the death of three people and the injuries of eight others in the blast.

A police spokesman said the bomber was unable to enter the hotel and blew himself up outside the Pescatore Hotel, located between the Beach View and Oceian View hotels on Lido beach.

“The blast killed at least three people and injured eight others, including security forces. We are reassuring the public that the area is now safe,” Abdifatah Adan said.

He said all the officials inside the hotel had been rescued, praising the security forces for thwarting the blast and that the suicide bomber was trying to reach inside the hotel where many officials were staying.

At least 10 lawmakers, the Somali Police Force Commander and former politicians had gathered at the hotel.

Emergency services confirmed to the media that six people had been killed and several others injured, and that there were still gunmen fighting inside the hotel, but police had revealed three deaths, casting doubt on the exact number of casualties.
