President Farmaajo Meets with UN Under-Secretary-General

Outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo received a high-level UN delegation led by UN Under-Secretary-General Amina Jane Mohamed at the State House.
President Farmaajo and the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations discussed issues related to social development (SDGs), strengthening United Nations-Somalia relations, completing the country’s elections, women’s political empowerment and advancing the cause of the Somali people.
The Federal Republic of Somalia, one of several countries in the region visited by the UN Under-Secretary-General, commended the government and people of Somalia for their progress in rebuilding the army, security, debt forgiveness process and economic growth, fighting corruption and coping with pandemic COVID-19.
The President shared with UN Under-Secretary-General Amina Jane Mohamed the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to human rights and the implementation of the principles of good governance, and thanked the United Nations for its support to the people of Somalia.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Planning, Jamal Mohamed Hassan, the Minister of State for the Presidency Hassan Moalim Khalif and the Adviser to the President on Electoral Affairs, Abdi Ali Rage, while the UN Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, also present at the meeting.
