Outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has said that any dismissal of a member of the Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia will not take effect until it is in accordance with the country’s Provisional Constitution.

In a statement just released tonight in opposing a decision taken by the Prime Minister, Office of the President said in accordance with Article 90, Letter (e) of the Provisional Constitution of the country which states “The powers of the President include the removal of Ministers, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers, upon the recommendation of the Prime Minister”  and said that the dismissal of the Minister of Internal Security, Hassan Hundubey, did not take place in a legal manner and therefore could not take effect.

“The dismissal and appointment of members of the Council of Ministers will not take effect until there is a process in accordance with the country’s Provisional Constitution” Said the President.

Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo stressed that the current task of the government was to complete the parliamentary elections that have begun in the country, and to wait for the continuation of the important tasks ahead.

Earlier in the evening, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble fired his security minister, Hassan Hundubey Jim’ale, and appointed Abdullahi Mohamed Nur as his successor.

In a decree issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Mohamed Hussein Roble named Abdullahi Mohamed Nur as the new Minister of Security, replacing former Security Minister Hassan Hundubey.

The Prime Minister thanked the former Minister of Internal Security Hassan Jim’ale for his achievements and work during his tenure.

The rift between Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has reached a tipping point, following the alleged killing of Ikraan Tahliil Farah.
