Incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo in Addis Ababa met with Ethiopia’s re-elected Prime Minister Abi Ahmed.

The meeting discussed the situation in the Horn of Africa region and bilateral relations between the two countries based on good neighborliness, mutual respect and intensification of the fight against Al-Shabaab.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed thanked President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo for attending the inauguration of his new government, saying he would support the Somali government on a number of fronts.

For the past three years, outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has been a close friend of the Ethiopian Prime Minister, welcoming him to Mogadishu and meeting several times in Addis Ababa and in Asmara, Eritrea.

This close relationship has however raised many eyebrows within the Somali people, who view Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as man with intentions to utilize the Somali ports and pressure outgoing president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo for support in return for his bid for re-election.
