Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has fired the director of the Somali National Security and Intelligence Agency, Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir.

Prime Minister Roble has temporarily appointed Brigadier General Bashir Mohamed Jama “Bashir Goobe” as the new commander of the Somali Correctional Forces. Bashir Goobe also served as NISA commander, from 2013 to 2014, under President Hassan Sheikh.

Prime Minister oble ordered Fahad to hand over power to Bashir Goobe within three days, from the moment the prime minister sign’s the letter.

Prime Minister Roble said in a statement that he had used Fahad’s suspension in accordance with Article 13 of the constitution, which deals with the right to life, which could be interpreted as blaming the killing of Ikraan Tahliil Farah.

He also applies Article 127 of the constitution, which stipulates that the military should be neutral in politics, and said Fahad has become involved in politics, especially in electoral matters.

Roble, meanwhile, cited Fahad’s letter Monday night in defiance of the prime minister’s order to submit a full report on Ikraan Tahliil Farah’s case within 48 hours.

In the letter, Fahad asked Roble to sit in the National Security Council to report on the Ikraan case, which many interpreted as Fahad’s refusal to directly explain to the prime minister.

The National Security Council includes President Farmaajo, Prime Minister Roble, army commanders, security and defense ministers, and regional leaders.

Prime Minister Roble’s 48-hour deadline for Nisa chief Fahad to report on Ikraan Tahliil’s case ended around 7:00 pm Mogadishu time.

Political and security analysts, however, believe Prime Minister Roble should not have waited until then, as NISA chiefs Fahad’s letter to Roble described the NISA chief as a direct rival to the prime minister’s powers.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister instructed the Attorney General of the Armed Forces, Abdullahi Bulle Kamaay, to conduct a formal investigation into the case of Ikraan Tahliil Farah.
