Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has been replaced by ministers of defense and justice in the federal government, according to a statement from his office.
“In a decree issued by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble, has appointed Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur (Jama), former Minister of Justice, as the new Minister of Defense. The Prime Minister also appointed Hassan Hussein Haji, a former Minister of Defense, as Minister of Justice,” said a statement from Roble’s office.
The Prime Minister has instructed the two reshuffled ministers to take office as soon as possible.
Roble’s move is seen as tactical, with Abdikadir Mohamed Nur being one of Roble’s closest ministers in several political battles with Farmajo.
The transfer of control of the Ministry of Defense to Abdulkadir is seen as important step, amid fears that the country could fall into another war over Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo’s desire for an extension.
Former Minister of Defense Hassan Hussein Haji issued a letter a few days ago in what appeared to be an insult to the prime minister after he ordered an investigation into land grabbing allegations made by a navy commander.
Hassan Hussein later retracted the statement, saying he intended to investigate the commander’s misconduct against Prime Minister Roble.
