Puntand State president cuts ribbon on Somali locust control center

Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni, who is on a working visit to Qardho, opened the locust control center in Somalia in Qardho.

The State President commended the efforts and good work of the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment at the Federal and state levels and FOA, which has facilitated the successful implementation of the center, which will be the main locust centre control in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.

Locust invasions have devastated crops in the Horn of Africa

The State President proposed that the locust center in Somalia be renamed after former Puntland Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Climate Change activist Ismail Diriye Gama’id, who initiated the initiative before his passing, spent time and laid the foundation stone for the center.

During the ceremony, the State President witnessed the commencement of the Accreditation Agreement signed by the Minister of Agriculture of the Federal Government of Somalia, Said Hussein Eid, and the heads of the East African locust control agency.

The opening ceremony of the locust center in Somalia was attended by the Puntland President, Ministers of Agriculture and Environment of the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Government Member States, FAO Somalia officials, Puntland Government Councils, Qardho and Karkar Regional Administrations and Presidential officials.
