Somali Gov announces number of dead and injured in Hayat Hotel attack

The Minister of Health of the Federal Government of Somalia Dr. Ali Haji announced the number of dead and wounded as a result of the Al-Shabaab attack on the Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu.

The minister who went to the hospitals where the victims of the attack were taken said that it has been confirmed that 21 people died in the attack while 117 others were injured.

He said that this information was confirmed by the Ministry of Health from the hospitals in Mogadishu, but there may be bodies buried by their relatives, which were not taken to the hospitals.

The Minister of Health of the Government of Somalia, Dr. Ali Haji Adan, said that 15 of the 117 people are seriously injured, and the Ministry of Health will take responsibility for dealing with the injured.

Somali Police Chief Abdi Hassan Mohamed (Hijaar), said that during the Al-Shabaab attack on the hotel, the security agencies focused on the rescue and safety of the citizens in the area.

The commander said that they succeeded in saving more than 106 people, including children and women.

Hijar, accused al-Shabaab of killing people, mostly children and women.

The commander said the loss of civilians occurred in the early hours of the attack.

He confirmed that soldiers lost their lives while saving civilians. But the commander did not say the number of soldiers who died.
