Somali government forces launch operation in Mogadishu

The Somali Police Force (SPF) has carried out an operation in Mogadishu in response to the order issued by the Somali Police Force Commander.
The forces have been conducting special operations on the roads between the districts of Banadir region, inspecting various types of vehicles and the public on the roads.
Police in checkpoints have carried out the operation in Howlwadag, Hodan and Waberi districts, ensuring security and cracking down on narcotics and illegal drugs.
The police officers who led the operation said that the purpose of their operation was to prevent the use and selling of drugs and carrying out the orders of the Police Chief General Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hijar.
The operation had impacted the flow of people and vehicles on the streets of Maka Al-Mukarama, Wadnaha and 30th junctions, where the operation was carried out by the troops.
Mogadishu has seen a rise in illegal drugs which has impacted the young population in the country.
The operation comes after police said they will begin to target those who they say “are destroying the youth”.
