Somali PM & Opposition meet; calls for emergency meeting with Federal state leaders & Electoral Commission

In a highly sensitive meeting today, MTVSomali.com can confirm that the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Robe, and members of the Opposition Candidates’ Union have reached a preliminary understanding in the dispute regarding the election process.

The Union of Candidates say it is deeply concerned about the lack of transparency in the country’s upcoming elections and convened their meesage of how unhappy they are with the current process to Prime Minister Roble.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, two key points were agreed upon, namely;

1. To change the process that started the elections of the House of the People and convene a meeting of the National Consultative Assembly.
2. The Electoral Commissions shall perform their duties in accordance with the agreed electoral procedures.

Prime Minister Roble shared his decision with opposition candidates on his efforts to hold free and fair elections in the country.

The Prime Minister, taking into account the concerns expressed about the transparency of the elections by the Union of Candidates, the sentiments of the Somali people and the international community, has promised that the National Consultative Assembly would convene to work together to ensure that the country’s elections occur efficiently and correct mistakes.

The Prime Minister said that the State and Federal Electoral Commissions will also convene in a virtual meeting to discuss the transparency of the elections and stressed that all those who violate the transparency of the elections will be held accountable.
